Story Board

This was the first rotation that I had when I started, and in my opinion it was the perfect starting point. Before this I did not see Storyboarding as a crucial thing to do, but when I learned about how to frame them and how that can effect storytelling, such as a wide empty shot with a person make the viewer/character feel alone and a full, close up shot can make the viewer feel claustrophobic. These are all things I had never really taken into account. I would also try and draw every frame of the storyboard perfectly however this is not needed because you just need to convey what is happening within the shot.

Being chased by a monster

For this task we were given different prompts to help us generate ideas, I chose the idea ‘Two people meeting at a coffee shop’. I chose this one because I feel I could twist it from being two friends to being two enemies. The start of the sequence has long thin alleyways, this makes the viewer feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable. It then switches to close up shots which makes the encounter feel personal, this also gives an opportunity to see the faces of the characters as expression is very important in any form of media. Most of the rest of the sequence uses this as this is supposed to be an intimidating event for the protagonist. To improve this story board I would slightly change the transition between frame 6 and 7 as it could be unclear on what is happening between those events.

For this task we went to the Tate and had to draw random people that we saw, the challenge was that these where just random people that where walking around and would not stand and wait for us to finish drawing them to perfection. This is something that I had never done before because I usually try to make finished looking drawings. I found it quite fun to look at people facial features and focus on the prominent ones. First we where asked to focus on people and then we where asked to focus on the whole room I did the majority of them in the cafe and then that is where I picked the drawing for the next task.

The final task for the project was to make a 3 panel story board based on one of the drawings from the Tate. I chose this drawing I did of two people sat down next to each other, one is eating a sandwich and the other is stressed with some work. The man notices she is stressed and then gives the sandwich to her to brighten her day. I like this story board because it is very simple as it is so short and the framing is quite basic making it seem natural.
